We are a chapter within the American Sewing Guild (ASG), a national, non-profit organization and being a member entitles you to all benefits available at the national level, which include a weekly “Notions” communication email from National headquarters, nationwide on-line shopping discounts, a large instruction video library, neighborhood group meetings (including access to neighborhood groups in other chapters and states and their meetings) and webinars/virtual workshops. There is an annual National Convention.
Our Chapter serves the Northern California counties of Santa Clara, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey.
We host five neighborhood group meetings each month with two special interest groups for machine embroidery and vintage machines. You can attend what interest you. You can try out a neighborhood meeting twice before joining ASG. Go to the Groups page to find out about each neighborhood group meeting including locations and schedules.
In addition to monthly neighborhood group meetings we have several sewing and guild related events during the year, like a 5-day sewing retreat, a chartered bus day-trip to fabric stores in the Bay Area, the "Fabric Bargain Market" where we get donated, sewing related items back into the community for a bargain and our Annual Meeting and Luncheon every fall. There are Community Service sew-days where sewn items are donated to deserving charities. There are workshops (virtual & in person) offered to learn new skills.
Our members have a wide variety of interests that include garment making (from babies to cosplay), bag making, quilting, upcycling, home decor, sewing crafty items, accessories and toys for children, textiles and wearable art (fabric dyeing and embroidery). There is no limit when fabric, needle and thread are involved (and a little glue, occasionally)
