Carrie bag workshop

Come join our newest workshop and make a designer-inspired bag, the Carrie Bag by Sallie Tomato Patterns. Named for the character Carrie Bradshaw of “Sex in the City,” the bag looks a lot like the Fendi baguette, famous since the 1970s, widely imitated by numerous other brands, and costing upwards of $3,000 at retail prices!

Taught by Lorraine Olson at the Willow Glen Recreation Center, the class will take place on September 5 from 9am to 4pm and September 6 from 9am to 2pm.  The in-person class will be preceded by a recommended Zoom class one month ahead of time. During the Zoom class on August 1 at 10am, Lorraine will provide a little bit of history about the retail designer bags along with some inspiration for your own design. She will also explain sources for supplies and the homework you will need to do so we can make maximum use of in-person class time. If participants wish, we can place a group order for hardware needed to make the bag.

You will learn skills such as using foam stabilizer, installing a turn-lock clasp and zipper pocket, and sewing with cork or faux leather for the strap. This pattern is versatile and lends itself to a lot of creativity!
