About the event

We are getting together in March to sew dresses for the Dress a Girl Around the World Charity. The dress in the photo is a sample of the type of dress they accept. The fabric for the dresses needs to be washable in a creek or river so cotton fabrics work best. Makers are encouraged to add embellishments and pockets are a must (to hold a girl’s favorite treasures.) Fabrics should be prewashed. Patterns will be available for those who do not have any on hand.

You may visit the website, https://www.dressagirlaroundtheworld.com/dresses-we-accept to look at their requirements.  The girl needs to be able to slip the dress on so there should not be a zipper or button closures.  There are a few free patterns tutorials available such as: https://thegirlinspired.com/hoot-hoot-so-cute/.  There is this YouTuber's tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8Axi6s-008.  Of course this just scratches the surface.  We found a pattern for a dress using bias tape for the armholes that also serves as shoulders ties at a ten dollar price:

The orgainizer has  looked for suitable printed patterns among the major brands and these are pattern numbers she found:

M7768       M5797

M7798       S8102 - (organizer has three copies of this pattern)

The organizer  also has copies of a two or three tiered dress that has elastic around the neckline.

The organizer is making the dresses she plans to donate ahead of time so that she will be available to assist anyone in need of direction on Sew Day.

What you need to bring.  Sewing machine, basic sewing supplies and fabric and pattern from above choices.
