Thank you to everyone that contributed with any of our projects this year!!  Sewing for our community has been a huge success!

Children’s clothing (any size)is always needed (currently warm clothing and boys wear is appreciated) for the foster children project in San Mateo; as are small, simple kids quilts (45” x 45”).  The quilts do not need to be machine quilted, they can be tied.  They must be washable.  These are given to the Quilts for Kids organization that distributes them to the San Jose Family Shelter and to Stanford Hospital.

All neighborhood groups are involved in our ongoing project to make children's clothing to be donated to the San Mateo County Foster Children. Any size from 6 months up to teens is accepted. Those outfits that are extra special are saved by the program director for any of the children who have a special occasion clothing need. We have sent well over 150 garments to them over the last couple years.

We have an ongoing need for tote bags, dimensions 10” x 13” with short handles that are sewn in kid friendly fabrics. These are used by JW House to give children to carry coloring books/crayons to take with them to the hospital. If you have a coloring book to put in it, that would be especially nice.

Also, JW House needs more pillowcase that are made from fun, children’s fabrics. And, an ongoing request for drawstring bags or tote bags that are about 15” square. These are used for the adults to carry toiletries, etc. while they are there.

The Mid-Peninsula neighborhood group has an ongoing project of sewing pillowcases for the Help One Child group in Los Altos.

If you have any questions regarding Community Service, please contact us for more information. We gladly accept any items year-round and welcome any new ideas that you may have, or know of any group that is in need of specific items.

Patterns are available for most projects if you would like to make any of these items on your own.

Our Painted Turtle Project is a huge success! We have made over 50 turtle pillows! Our contribution will be mailed to the host chapter this month. Congratulations to everyone who participated in this worthwhile project. Many children will be delighted to receive a colorful pillow while they are at camp.

This quarter we were very delighted to receive cancer caps, painted turtles, and pillowcases from one of our member’s children. They sewed these projects on their own.

Congratulations!

News flash – we have sewn 106 pillowcases for the Help One Child organization. Our original goal was to make 50 pillowcases to support their Signs of Hope Summer Camp. Hats off to all who contributed! It’s the kindness and generosity of our members that make these programs such a success.
